Our Team
Tolbert B Marks, Co-Founder / Co-Owner
tolbert@landrymarks.comMr. Marks joined telecommunications firm Metromedia upon his graduation from Texas Tech University in 1989. After two years of direct business to business sales for Metromedia Marks followed his boss to industry competitor Allnet Communications where he served as sales manager of their Dallas branch. During his time at Allnet he held multiple positions in various U.S. markets and ultimately led one of their four national regional offices. In this capacity he had direct responsibility for recruiting, hiring, training and managing a large and diverse sales and support staff covering multiple States.
After two acquisitions, an IPO, and a relocation to Allnets Midwest region Mr. Marks was looking for an opportunity to return to Texas. He was fortunate to be hired by Dallas firm Vertex Financial that specialized in working capital finance solutions for emerging or transitioning companies. At Vertex he received mentoring and training from industry leader and owner Craig Canon. It was at Vertex where Mr. Marks was introduced to the world of small business finance and discovered the enormous void in options available to entrepreneurs. In 2001 the opportunity to start Landmark Funding arose when college friend, Tom Landry, approached Mr. Marks about launching a new commercial finance venture . Marks and Landry recognized that their shared business values and different skill sets were ideal for a partnership.
Tolbert and his wife Sharilyn reside in Dallas, TX with their children Madelyn and Jack. They enjoy volunteer work for school, church and community, travelling whenever possible, and attending their kids various sporting events.
Tom Landry, Co- Founder / Co-Owner
tom@landrymarks.comTom joined KPMG’s Houston Office in the Financial Institutions Audit Practice upon his graduation from Texas Tech in 1988. This period exposed Tom to the banking and finance industry early in his professional career, and in 1992, he left the firm to join the acquisitions department at J-Hawk Corporation in Waco. While at J-Hawk, Tom worked on the successful acquisitions of various portfolios of non-performing and performing loans and assets (real estate and business assets), and was ultimately assigned to represent J-Hawk’s to interests in its European joint venture entity headquartered in Paris, France. After 18 months in Paris, Tom left J-Hawk to return to the New York City office KPMG as a Senior Manager in its Mergers & Acquisition practice, primarily focusing on leading due diligence assignments for both financial and strategic buyout transactions. While at KPMG, Tom returned to Texas and worked a brief period in the KPMG Dallas Transaction Services practice before leaving the firm to work two different private-equity backed entities in Austin and Maryland in various financial capacities.
Throughout Tom’s career, he had been exposed to various entities that attempted to serve the small business leaders and entrepreneurs with working and growth capital and realized that a significant opportunity existed to bring the same level of professionalism found in other areas of finance to the arena of working capital finance. Tom also had a long-standing relationship with Tolbert Marks from his college days and each shared the same view of the opportunities to provide their services to the segment of small businesses and entrepreneurs from a professional perspective. From this shared vision, LandMark was born and has grown to serve the small business and entrepreneur with their unique working capital and liquidity challenges.
Tom has been married to his wife since 1991, and they have two teenage boys who are both active in team sports. When not attending organized sporting activities, the family enjoys spending time outdoors (hunting and fishing) and volunteering at various school and church activities. tom@landrymarks.com
